“I Can Work on Accepting Myself" wrestles with how motherhood has physically and emotionally changed me and speaks to my current state--somewhere between the unrealistic desire to return to who I was before and a resistance to fully embracing the new.
These pieces embody this tension with my physical stretch marks and scars. Starting with photographs, I molded clay in the shape of my smooth skin and filled the gaps left by stretch marks with fiber that mimics their texture. The back of the piece is an hand stitched affirmations that were chosen through in EMdR therapy: “I can work on accepting myself."
